About LS Precast
LS Precast will operate the new concrete facility in Benalla which will support 400 (300 on site, and a further 100 for Benalla businesses - shops, cafes etc) new jobs and provide a huge boost to Victoria’s manufacturing sector.
The $60 million manufacturing facility will produce 68,000 precast concrete products (approximately 900,000 tonnes of concrete for beams, piers and segments) to build the West Gate Tunnel project.
The facility will be the largest of its kind in Victoria, capable of producing up to 1800 tonnes of concrete segments per day at peak capacity.
The facility is expected to be a long-term supplier of concrete product to the regional market as well as Victoria’s major infrastructure projects such as the West Gate Tunnel Project.
LS Precast will be run by Ashley Day, owner and Managing Director of LS Quarry Group, an established quarrying and rock crushing company in Lima South.
Why was Benalla selected?
It’s important regional Victoria benefits from the many opportunities created by the state’s booming infrastructure sector. Following extensive research, Benalla was identified as the preferred location due to:
- Proximity to local quarries
- Regional workforce availability
- Access to an existing rail line to easily transport concrete product to Melbourne/nationally
The first precast concrete products for the West Gate Tunnel project will be produced in November. It will be transported via road until the new rail siding is operational in early 2019
